JAZZ COMPOSERS ALLIANCE, INC.

The JCA was established in 2001 as a not for
profit organization that serves as a catalyst for
the creation, development, and presentation of
original works of Jazz.  By organizing a musical
exchange for original ideas and works by jazz
composers, the JCA has become a beacon for
those seeking musical expression and
experimentation.

The JCA routinely provides the composer the
opportunity to hear, experiment, and expose
their works in a venue outside of the commercial
(nightclub) or university.  To date the JCA has
premiered over 50 new works by
composers-in-residence in the Richmond
metropolitan area.  Additionally, the JCA has
assisted in recording 30 new works by
composers-in-residence.

The JCA also supports the development of new
audiences for Jazz through education.  The Jazz
Mentors Project provides mentor ship and
instruction to aspiring young musicians in theory,
improvisation, and performance skill.
Each year the JCA continues to advance its mission of through
our programs the Jazz Mentor’s Project, Composers-in-
Residence, and Big Band Preservation.  We have seen the genre
of Jazz expanded and many lives changed for the better.

We’ve done this with the generous help and donations from
individuals and supporters such as these:  Meet the Composer
USA, Virginia Commission of the Arts, Allergen, Black History
Museum and Cultural Center, Take me to Happy Hour, Walter
Manning Funeral Home, and Joseph Jenkins Funeral Home.
